Fic: Unraveling (Part 11)
Dec. 11th, 2011 11:45 am[Masterlist] [Part 10]
Dean sat with Cas’s family at the dining table while Cas ate his dinner on the couch. Dean wanted to sit on the couch with him, but when he saw four plate settings at the table and Cas already with a plate in his hand, he was trapped.
He sat at the table, quiet. He listened to the conversations the Singer family had, only speaking when he was asked a question.
After dinner, he helped Jo clear the table and even offered to wash the dishes, but the Singer women kicked him out of the kitchen. Jo told him to sit with Cas and Bobby and just watch TV. He took it as a sign that they were warming up to him. He sat next to Cas on the couch, while Bobby lounged on the lazyboy.
A couple of hours later, Bobby, Ellen, and Jo retired to their bedrooms. Dean stayed to finish the movie that he and Cas had started. At the end of the movie, as the credits rolled, he saw the Cas had leaned over on the couch and fallen asleep.
Dean looked over and shook his head. He could not believe that Cas had fallen asleep without kicking Dean off of the couch. He stood up and turned off the television and DVD player. He then walked over to Cas and picked up his legs to put them where he was sitting.
When he looked up, he saw Jo standing in the hallway with her glasses, messy hair, and an afghan over her. Dean quickly stood up and started to fidget like he had been caught doing something wrong. “He fell asleep,” Dean spat out. “Does he usually need to sleep? Is that a dumb question?” He knew he was speaking way to fast. And he could tell that he was blushing.
Jo bit her bottom lip to keep from laughing and waking Cas up. “It’s not a dumb question. He doesn’t usually sleep. But if he’s really hurt, his body usually takes time to recover.” She walked over to the couch and looked at her brother asleep on it. “Let me get him a blanket,” she said.
She returned with a thick blanket and a pillow. She threw the blanket over him, pulling it up to his chin. She handed the pillow over to Dean and gestured for him to put it under his brother’s head.
Dean gently lifted up Cas’s head and slid the pillow under it. He stared at Cas for a second before he shook his head to stop him from being creepy. “I should—”
“So, now that you know that Cas and Dark Angel are the same person, do you…” her voice trailed off. She actually had no idea how to put into words what she was trying to say. At least, not without scaring Dean off.
“Do I what?”
Jo sighed. Dean was more dense than she thought. “You care about him,” she said.
“Of course I do,” Dean replied. “He’s… he’s my partner.” He had no idea why he hesitated to describe what Cas was to him.
“Yeah. Okay.”
“What does that mean?” Somehow, Dean knew that Jo knew something that she wasn’t telling him. He knew she was smart. Observant. And Dean was not as sneaky as he thought he was.
“Nothing,” Jo replied. Even though Dean didn’t say anything, she could read what he was thinking as clearly as if someone had written it on his forehead with a marker. “Goodnight, Dean,” she replied. She wrapped the afghan around her shoulders a little tighter then walked down the hallway into her room.
Dean waited for the sound of the door closing. He sent one last look at Cas, contemplating if he should stay or leave.
He walked over to the couch and fixed the part of the blanket that had somehow shifted in the two minutes since Jo had thrown it on Cas. He sat down on the coffee table and stared at the man. He resisted the urge he had to brush a hand through his messy hair and kiss him on the forehead.
He sighed and stood up. He walked over to the kitchen table and grabbed his leather jacket. He put it on and made his way to the front door.
He opened the front door slowly, not wanting to make a sound that could possibly wake Cas up. “Goodnight, Cas,” Dean replied. He turned off the kitchen light and left Cas’s apartment.

Date: 2011-12-13 01:01 am (UTC)I feel like Cas, Jo, Bobby, and Ellen would have an awesome family dynamic. I think Jo would be the perfect protective younger sibling.
I will continue this. I'm not sure when the next parts will be up, but I have a lot of ideas. I know that I left a lot of unanswered questions.
I hope you enjoyed your lunch!
Thank you for reading!

Date: 2011-12-12 05:28 am (UTC)Jo was funny. Glad Cas respected Dean's wishes enough to not erase his memories. Kind of sad that Cas apparently doesn't remember the kiss in the alley.
Will there be more to this? I mean the Sinister brothers' weapon source is still out there, Crowley is suspicious, and Cas hasn't realized how important Dean is to him yet. Of course I'm a sucker for superhero fic too.

Date: 2011-12-13 12:36 am (UTC)I love Jo! I can just imagine her being this protective of Cas. I think that Cas trusted Dean enough and he knew that Dean would find out his secret eventually if he did erase his memory. Yeah... Sorry about that last one. It gives Dean a lot more to think about.
There definitely will be more to this. I just have to write it. I know that I left a lot of thins unanswered. I definitely love superhero fic too. :)
