I've figured something out
Sep. 13th, 2011 07:41 amSo this is my writing process.
Or, at least it’s what happens every time I tend to write.
When I get inspired, like really inspired, nothing can stop me from writing. I sit at my computer, writing the beginning, the ending, the middle, the dialogue, and all that. I’m usually so excited to be writing that the Word Documents rarely close on my laptop.
Then I get about 10,000 words in. I have the first two, maybe three, chapters finished, the ending is there, and the middle is slowly coming together.
And usually that’s as far as the story goes. I get nervous and start to worry that what I’m writing isn’t quality, or the premise is too weird, and no one will read it.
So, the story just stops. I go back to it every now and then, but I have yet to actually finish one of those stories.
That’s why I have about at least a dozen unfinished stories over 10,000 words in my stories folder. I’ve become a little better at it, though. Planning and outlines have become my friends.
I swear, these stories will see the light of day one day.
Scenario 2 when it comes to my writing:
I really need to learn how to realize when I’ve left something open ended.
I finish a story and I am as happy as I can be with the work. But then people ask for sequels or answers to questions that I didn’t know they could ask.
I become inspired, wanting to ask the question and delve deeper into the story I created. But then I wonder if it will ever live up to what the readers wanted.
Now, I didn’t write this because I’m angsting and I need a hug or something (but if you want to give me a hug anyway, that’s cool), I’ve just slowly figured out my process. It’s one of those things that now I know what’s going on, I can understand it and fix it.
In the end, I know it will help me become a better writer.
Maybe I need a beta to take away some of this anxiety…
Wishlist for people to guest star on Supernatural
Michael Vartan
Bruce Campbell
Zachary Levi
Christian Kane
People who need to show up again
Taylor Cole (Sarah from Provenance. Yeah, I shipped Sam/Sarah, so what?)
Loretta Devine (MISSOURI!!!)
Random note:
Is anyone having problems with LJ editing? I wanted to edit one of my past entries, but I couldn’t do it without erasing the entire thing.
Am I just that LJ unsavvy or are other people having this problem to? Is there anyway to fix it?
This is the randomness that is DauntPerplexity.
